Mayfield Flower Series

July 31, 2008 at 11:15 p07 (Life and its pleasures, Pics/Photography) ()

My first flower series from a friend garden in little island. Bugs and insects are too tough, flowers are a bit easier to shoot. The bokeh is a bit “clouded” as a result from trying to get more depth of field. My friend lives in Mayfield, hence the post name. Will try to learn the name of the flowers next time.

If you know the name of the flowers, please let me know, ok?

Singapore Young Photographer Award 2008

July 24, 2008 at 11:15 p07 (Gathering, Hobby, Pics/Photography) ()

Met up with a friend and fellow Pentaxian at the Museum last Saturday. Wee Kiat has just won the Singapore Young Photographer Award 2008 and together with some friends, we were at the museum admiring his works and those of other merit winners. WK has taken up the hobby only two years ago but his talent is so immense he won awards while little bird like pipit can only blog about him!

WK used an entry level K100D, same as pipit, with a 10-20 wide angle lens as his kit lens. His landscape photographs are breathtaking and you can check him out at flicker under the nick of night86mare. He has since upgraded his camera body to K20D and with his price money of $5000, i am sure a few more lenses before he flies off to London after his school holiday ends at September.

For those who are interested in photography or just enjoy beautiful photographs, can drop by the Singapore museum. For those who like to meet him, he will be at Labrador Park this Saturday with some photography buffs to shoot some shorescape and sundown. The meeting is at 4 pm Saturday 26 July 2008, Labrador Park and those interested to join the shoot can leave a message in my comment box.

Hands UP!

June 11, 2008 at 11:15 p06 (Hobby, Pics/Photography)

my first attempt at close up photography with my new DSLR pentax camera. the shot was taken with the 18-55 kit lens. the model is ZAKUII from the “Gundam” anime series.

The toy was a present from my cousin and was one of my favourtie collection of toys. i actually have a few more of these *ahemm*. This particular one has an interesting storey behind it. It was “accidentally” given away to a relative in China by my mum a few years back. All cos this particular one come with a nice box that i never opened then. So, mum thot i have no interest in it as it was left untouched in the glass cabinet.

In the end, I had to ask another relative to go to China to retrieve it back for me.

Marvy, if you are reading this, you know this is “big boy” toys, just like the transformer!!

Beautiful Tuesday Dawn

April 29, 2008 at 11:15 p04 (Pics/Photography, Random Observations)

this is the view from my living room as i got up this morning. beautiful isn’t it?

this shot was taken with my trusted sony dsc-w1 point & shoot camera. for the photo buff, i was shooting in manual mode, spot metering the red part of the sky, 1/5s and 5.6 aperture. camera was resting on the window frame for stability. i used a timer and post production include cropping, level and curve tuning.

Good Bye Sentosa Island!

December 10, 2006 at 11:15 p12 (News & Comments, Pics/Photography)

Genting International just won the bid for the building of the integrated resort at Sentosa Island. Sentosa Island, the tranquil island that i visit occasionally to “get away” from the hectic mainland island life is going to see major development happening in the next few years.

Sentosa Island will see S$5.2 billion investment pouring in and the creation of 30,000 jobs to staff the IR. Together with an estimated visitors count of at least 30,000 per day, i will have the company of 60,000 or more at any single day when i visit. Well, i guess the day of stumbling unto couple having sex in the belukar and the odd komodo dragon will be a thing of the past.

Genting’s win is not totally unpredictable. In fact, i had wagered some monies on Genting share a couple of months back in anticipation of this win. We, in little dot are a pragmatic lot. No matter what situation we find ourselves in, we will try to make the best out of it. What’s next? Spill over effect on property prices in the West Coast?

Before the serene and peaceful Sentosa is gone and replaced by the man made merryland, i went down to vivocity last friday to take some pictures for remembrance.

I will miss you, Sentosa Island……………………………

Gossip by the River

December 4, 2006 at 11:15 p12 (Bloggers Meeting, Pics/Photography, Random Observations)

Cocka came to collect his prize for the caption contest held some weeks back. we decided to visit boat quay for a makan & some drinking session without the normal entourage…

guess who we saw? we saw car2 in a black body hugging tee… she seemed to be searching for someone. if you are still blur by now where she is, her back is facing you on the right of the above pic! get it?

we were curious and we followed her into a “No Entry except authorised vehicles” backlane. How ironical, no extry,  except this car2!

after emerging from the back lane, we saw car2 talking to a mysterious lady that look like some misty fog… too far couldn’t get a close up!

car2 talking to the guy in red next to her on her cellphone at the sundanese indonesian restaurant. very secretive ho! why could not talk face to face? must be secret boyfriend!

after the dinner, car2 adjourned to the nearby coffee bean with the guy in red, and was joined by another mysterious lady… a very hiao-looking foxy lady. the mysterious misti one had disappeared by now. wow, a threesome hah?!!

Hei! this is the guy that talked to car2 just now. He was no more wearing red! What happened to his shirt hah? He looked very2 happy sitting next to car2. Wonder what’s their relationship?

the hiao one, again! but car2 didn’t look too happy this time. the hiao one must be the secret gf of her secret bf. omg! show hand already so fast?

to really find out what happened on that fateful evening… you can read here, here, here & here

Colour Tag

November 28, 2006 at 11:15 p11 (Pics/Photography, Tag)

Tagged by lenglui velverse, here is my list of six similar colour but of different theme. I chose the colour of love that i find in my humble den…

hope you will enjoy this post as much as i, in doing it.

laundry… one of the chores that take up a lot of our time at home. the myriad of colour of the hanging shirts represent the different chores that we take pride in doing around our home. we sweat through these chores but we are not complaining…. cos it is a toil of love.

mummy’s world is always grey. she is illiterate and her only connection to the external world is the tv in her room. but her love for me and my late father is never short of colourful. although pushing 90, and ravaged by the wear and tear of time, she never lose her zeal for life. she still think of visiting my brother in hk and has no qualm doing air travel, and assist in bringing up our kid.

this quilt is mummy’s current handiwork. all the years of hard work had not blunt her dexterity with needle work. I had one of these quilts all through my years in univ when i was away from home. It is my only comfort against homesickness in a foreign land.

books are my constant companion through the thick and thin of life. i only keep the diy self-help and management books at home. for others like novel and fiction, will borrow from the national library. library@orchard is my favourite outlet and my only oasis when wife goes shopping at takashimaya.

had been keeping fish since i was young and this tank of tetras, guppies, glass fish and cat fish had been with me for 4 years. this aquarium is my weekend therapy when i do the water changing and rearrangement of the tank waterscape. i also keep some prawns in the tank as my assistant in cleaning up those hard to reach corners 🙂

we huff & puff trying… calling for our son…. cleaning up the house…. creating a condusive environment etc. now all we are waiting for is the emergence of a champion sperm!
