Vantage Point – die2 must watch!!

vp.jpg

No spoiler here but this is a simple movie of the US president and his guardian angel Dennis Quaid. The US president went to talk 3 talk 4 *about world peace, what else!* in Spain and got shot. Point of view from eight fellas were joined together to retell the scenes leading to the assasination and we get this movie.

Why i like this movie?

Got Dennis Quaid – like this fella cos got a damn serious look, almost authoritative. But not the kind of character that i would like to meet in real life. He anchored the movie with a performance that is solid yet vulnerable.

Got alien smasher Sigourney Weaver – SW looks stunning as the production manager of the studio network covering the occasion in Spain. Another strong woman role for SW – look like she is type casted after her alien-kicking days!

Forest Whitaker – Love him for his potrayal of Idi Amin in another show. But unfortunately, his character is the weakest in this movie. His “visiting tourist with a video cam” role was, IMHO,  created as a link pin so the whole plot make sense. It takes a lot of artistic license for me to believe that the playback from the video cam helped in solving the case.

The car chase in the movie was superb. How the hell the director managed to let it rip in a street crowded with people and cars is simply awesome!! Dennis Quaid in a Mazda 2 cub is  ridiculous but very cute!

The assasination technique is very high tech, but very believable! It seems the bad guys are highly cerebal fellas. If that is an indication of the capability of the bad guys nowadays, it is not hard to believe that a limping middle age man can escape from the island of alcatraz!!

WELL, that Pipit view of the “Vantage Point”

 Hope you like it too!!

Malaysia GE2008: Pipit’s Wish List

March 15, 2008 at 11:15 +08:0003 (Default)

Malaysians have voted and a new government is in place. In view of the new makeup of government with a strong opposition, pipit has a little wish list. Here goes…

·         Open tender system for all governmental contracts and concessions

·         “Better” remuneration package for all civil servants to eradicate corruption

·         “Better” education system starting with a review of the system and highlight problems like why certain race is dropping out of school early and how to help reduce the rate of drop-outs

·         “Better” public transport policy with a better inter-connectivity between the different modal of transport like car-train-bus etc

·         A future plan that is not based on neither the lucrative oil economy nor communal politic

·         Alternative to NEP should be spelt out clearly to prevent any misunderstanding

On a more personal note, can we have some alternative to the existing single-race menu/stall at the North-South Highway R&R stops? I think all Malaysians, visitors and tourists deserve more than just mee rebus or mee soto, right?

MM Lee, Mas Selamat & GE2008

March 8, 2008 at 11:15 +08:0003 (News & Comments)

dsc01921.jpg

“It is stupid to believe we are infallible. We are not infallible. One mistake and we’ve got a big explosive in our midst. So let’s not take this lightly”. MM Lee, on the escape from detention of JI man Mas Selamat.

Lee Kuan Yew is one politician and leader I always respect. He is frank and to the point. LKY is brave to admit that the national security forces are complacent and allow his words to be reported on the front page of the national newspapers.

I am sick that a mistake of this proportion only warrant a lame “We are sorry” from DPM Wong. We need more leaders like LKY. Those who neglect their duty should be told so, right in their faces! Kudos to LKY!

Talking about duty, i, too have failed my national duty. Malaysians are going to the poll today. For one who is eligible but have never voted, i feel guilty of not voting, again. The usual reason, hassle of travelling and taking leave from work. Maybe complacency had crept into my mundane but comfortable life. Voting is our birth right. We should exercise it and be a responsible  citizen.

Come GE2012, you bet i will be there!
