Life in 5 years time…

July 30, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (News & Comments)

pic14309.jpgpic30303.jpgpic20600.jpg

Malaysian tycoon Tan Sri Francis Yeoh was reported recently going to build an RM8 billion high speed rail between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The project will take 2 years to get the land approval and 3 years to build. If all well goes well, KL-Sg is only 90 minutes away in 5 year time.

Well, that means i can have breakfast with Cocka in JB, hope onto a fast train to KL for lunch with Lenglui & Zara Mama. Afterwhich i will still have time to talk3 talk4 with Happysurfer & Angel. Dinner will be good if i can catch Teh-C, and hear his view on the latest political scene in Boleh Land. Sacrificing supper, i can still hope onto a train to come back and kiss my son (hopefully he is here by then) good nite before calling it a day…. provided i dont have plan for a round of midnight gin rummy at the casino at Marina Bay or Sentosa Island, which will be fully operational in 5 years time.

Life is 5 years time is definitely very exciting if the above vision materialise!!

No Massage Services Here!

July 27, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (Random Observations)

*Rub rub eyes*… true of not?

Burung Pipit visitors had double and triple over the last few days. Nearly 50% of the visitors are directed here via the word “massage”.

 here is a sample…

  • clean massage in singapore
  • massage near raffles place
  • naked massage buddies
  • girl to man massage in malaysia
  • massage course in singapore
  • should sg man go for massage
  • tui na for infant

This influx happened after the posting of the “massage” entry.

Hei, you out there!

There is  NO, yilek, tak ada, MO, mei you, massage or char guat or tui na or urut, services here, ok? But thanks for dropping by, nevertheless.

Want information on massage, please go to sammyboy… or NEW PAPER (classified ad) or Yellow Pages  (online version).

This will be my final entry on the subject and will avoid the “M” word at all cost in future.

Feng Shui Talk at St Andrew Cathedral

July 24, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (Random Observations, Singapore)

I saw this sign outside St Andrew Cathedral (SAC) promoting a talk by one Rev Daniel Tong. It reminds me of what Helen wrote recently on the subject. She was talking about feng shui and how it has become a mega-buck industry. With this, are we seeing the churches are also jumping onto the “feng shui” bandwagon to reach out to the people?

The talk is organised by SAC Welcome Centre and will be held on 28 July FRI from 12 pm to 2 pm. I hope this is not another smartly veiled recruitment drive and the venue better has a back door that is not locked.

Anyone, lunch time FENG SHUI talk?

Everyone can fly!

July 22, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (Travel)

200px-casino_lisboa.jpg200px-penha_church_3.jpg300px-palace_grounds.jpg

That’s Airasia tag line and i can’t argue with Tony Fernandez, CEO of Airasia… as moi just got the RM1.99 (excluding tax RM35) ticket to Ipoh for this August. Yippee!! I am flying in as many time for the last two months as i did for the whole of the last two years.

… my thanks also go out to all those entrepreneurial JB guys who provided the transfer between Senai and Kiasuland! Without the convenient of the “taxi” service provided by these Malaysians, the hassle of travelling to Senai and navigating the bottleneck at the custom would be enough deterrent to low cost carrier (LCC) fans like moi!!

Our next target is Bangkok and Macau, for say SG$100? Getting one of these tickets is like striking the “consolation” price in the local 4-D lottery! Only no bet money $$ required and the odd of striking is much better…

LCC tickets fishing, anyone?

married man go massage parlour singapore

July 20, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (News & Comments, Singapore)

Someone found me using the above link words. That someone must be disappointed as the closest any post here matching that search is this article… married men also must make effort“. It was a post i wrote on a dinner arrangement with my visiting mother in law some time back.

However, i wonder why someone would like to search for “married man go massage parlour singapore”, unless you are doing research on the subject. As burung pipit is always helpful, maybe i can be of help. Drawing on my personal experience, i can think of a few reasons i call for the service of a masseur. As a married i think i am qualified to answer that search if i can rephrase it into “Why married man visit massage parlour”.

1. After a prolong exercise session like golf (in jb), the feel of an experienced hands is heavenly. massage is usually followed by a sumptuous seafood meal and a karaoke session. hence, i usually ask for a full day visa when i go for golfing in jb. the cost RM80 excluding tips.

2. (in suzhou, where i work for one year) it is cheap (RM50) and the masseurs were really good. dont think of hanky panky here as most of the masseurs were guys. as i no longer do business in china, i really miss the cheap and good massage there.

3. I am too tired to give my wife a massage at the end of a long day. Vice versa. Hence, sometimes i accompany my wife to the tui na (chinese style massage parlour). this tui na sifu at bukit timah is very heavily booked and usually got to make booking one week in advance. cost SG$40 for 45 minutes.

4. old already, need the char guat sifu (experienced masseur) to relieve some of the stress in the muscle that cannot be undone by sleeping and eating. i usually go for the half body massage at “myfoot” in great world or centrepoint in orchard road. cost SG$28  for 45 minutes.

5. sometime, usually in the company of a few ju pang gau yau (buddies), i will go for a makan-massage-drinking session in town… like a boys nite out. massage costs SG$30 for 45 minutes but masseur will ask for tips.

My wife and I are quite sore with the harsh government clamp down on the tui na shops in Singapore lately.  One of the rules that we are unhappy with is the ban on curtain cover; 2nd, massage must be carried out in full public view. Niamah, how do the government expect us to be massaged in the full view of the public in our birthday suit without the cover of at least a simple curtain!?

Literally, government is putting the neighbourhood tui na shops out of business. Of course there are spas out there which does not come under this rule but at $150 a session, it is effectively out of our budget. Massage, in its most basic form, is healthy. Government should just come down harsh on the few black sheeps that tarnish the trade and not throw the baby away with the bath water.

Ng Ah Sio refused to open late for HK CEO

July 18, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (News & Comments)

HK CEO Donald Tsang was in Singapore for a 3-day state visit and thought it would be a good idea to wrap up his tour with supper at the famous Rangoon Road Ng Ah Sio Pork Ribs Soup Eating House. Unfortunately the lady owner had different idea… she refused to open beyond the operation hour (6 am to 2 pm) to cater to the V VIP and his entourage.

I am sure the Foreign Ministry guys would be in hot soup, if one Ah Hwa Bak Kut Teh (BKT) didn’t come to the rescue. Well, Donald got his BKT fix, and the 30 reporters that were invited to dine with Donald got a little scoop that was splashed all over the HK dailies.

Ng Ah Sio, shrewd marketing strategy or just plain business sense? I leave it to fellow bloggers here to comment. Actually, Ng Ah Sio was never on my radar before. I only get to know this shop when my brother from HK started asking for it two years ago. It seems Hong Kongers only know one Ng Ah Sio BKT in Singapore. After this latest hoo hah i am sure my brother will ask me to bring him to try the Ah Hwa BKT!

Personally, i don’t fancy the BKT from Ng Ah Sio… too much pepper and too plain. You get a few pieces of ribs with your soup and nothing else. I prefer those that served the ribs together with other ingredients like tau pok, fish ball, lean meat etc, commonly found in Malaysia. In Singapore, i prefer the BKT in Keppel Distripark in Tanjong Pagar.

Ng Ah Sio “Mr Tsang, aiyah, want to eat bak kut teh, please come early lah. This is not a supper dish and we hope you understand. Workers also need to sleep early,,, wake up early,,, and start preparing the dish early mah!!” (photo courtesy of Cocka)

ACS Grand Reunion II

July 14, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (Gathering)

dsc04279.JPGdsc04347.JPGdsc04308.JPGdsc04314.JPGdsc04339.JPGdsc04284.JPGdsc04290.JPGdsc04327.JPGdsc04306.JPG

I have been coming in early for the last few days. My mind felt rejuvenated and my body energetic after coming back from Ipoh. Look like the good food of Ipoh and their famous mineral mountain water had done the trick… or is it the company of bosom buddies that reconnected all the loose synapses? I dont know but whatever it is, my hope is it will last…at least until the next reunion.

The reunion started with the arrival of the first out of towner on Thursday, me on Friday and finally wrapped when the Italy was crowned the world champion on Monday morning. We had a lot of fun doing things that we used to do when we were in secondary school like playing badminton, hanging out until the wee hoursof the morning, singing (now it is called karaoke) and yum char. I dont know where i found the energy but i actually stayed up for 24 hours without sleeping on Saturday.

Maybe my RM50 on the football pool on the 3rd placing match between Portugal and Germany helped. As most of the reasonable scores on Germany were taken, my RM50 went to Portugal 1-0. I thought i had a chance when Portugal held Germany 0-0 during the interval. All hell broke loose in the 2nd half and Germany won 3-1. Goncang won the pool and i won a breakfast at Foh San. The little Mr Kiasu in me and i believe some of the guys in the group too, was trying to recover our lost RM50 by gobbling its equivalent worth of dim sum.

Never in my life had i gone for dim sum so early in the morning and had to wait for 45 minutes some more! We were there at 5 am and a sign on the wall said business hour starts at 6 am. When they  finally opened at 5.45 am we thought they were being flexible but niamah, we were wrong. We had to spend another 15 min watching Foh San staff taking their breakfast before we were finally served on the dot at 6.00 am. Why so rigid, ah? If not for old time sake, we would had gone to Yoke Fook Mun which opens earlier! Helen, can you tell the lady boss our story? Until today, my mum still ask for Foh San moon cake whenever i go back to Ipoh during the that period of the year. Don’t let poor customer service spoil the brand name that she had built up over the year!

Beside hanging out with the boys which i enjoyed very much, the meeting with the MGS girls was a tad dissappointing, to say the least. The dinner setting was not very conducive for mingling and chatting. We later adjourned to a disco where the music was too loud for any meaningful exchange of conversation. We could have danced but the aunties were too uptight and the uncles that were present were more interested in the booze and the music! The MGS girls left about 11 pm en masse and i actually felt sad that people still behaved like they were in secondary school. Even in secondary school, the girls didn’t leave that early. Only different now, the girls drive and no longer depend on our 50cc Honda cubs to fetch them home.

We decided there and then that maybe it is better to stick to a “batang (stick) only” gathering. It is best that way as it will save us all those awkward moments in front of the girls. For this last gathering, maybe we could reward ourselves with a “I survived ACS reunion 2006” T-shirt since we really pushed ourselves to the physical limit of endurance. I take my hat off to the head organiser Goncang who had gone with only 3 hours of sleep for the three days (Fri to Sun) we were there. The man showed us why he is the taiko (big boss) among us as he exhibited boundless energy partying with us and at the same time had to wake up early to attend to his office matter.

Leng Lui x4, wo lai yeh!

July 12, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (Tag)

Here’s Another Meme

I got tagged by Lenglui! Here goes…

1) 4 jobs I would stink at:
Carpark Auntie: is government spy, I think. They are always in camouflage wearing tudung or a baseball cap with heavy dark sunglasses. They have the important task of increasing the cost of driving in Singapore. I don’t think I will fulfill my monthly quota of summon and most probably issue just enough summon to cover my salary.

Member of Parliament: I am always rakyat (people) before party and probably this will bring the party whip on my head faster than I can say “Lift upgrading for opposition wards in Hougang & Potong Pasir!”. Anyway, I prefer kissing babe to baby.

Blogger who write for STOMP (Straight Times Online Print)…: hei! I think I will go bonker if I had to write to a specific topic (beside meme hehehe) on a regular basis. Heard the money is good!

FATHER …for the simple fact that I am 15 year late (at least) for the job and counting.

2) 4 pretend nicknames I’m making up for myself:
-Burung Pipit, that’s me with my little views
-Darling, a nick all girls called me during my univ days
-Sebastian James, that’s my internet nick

-Seefei,  my blogger nick which is an aggregation of wifey & my name

3) 4 movies I have watched over and over (and did not fall asleep):
There’s not a lot of movies that I would watch over and over again if you don’t count those re-run like Aliens, Rambo etc that the TV stations dish out from times to times

-Autumn Tales (Chow Yun Fatt & Cherrie Chung)

-Pulp fiction (John Travolta in a comeback role)

-Stephen Chow’s comedies like “To China with Love”, Kung Fu Hustler, Shaolin Soccer

-Michael Hui talk show at the HK coliseum

4) 4 things I love to do on weekends:
Call for my unborn child (Short term)
-Play with my child (Middle term)

Play with my grandchildren (Long term)
– Have a cuppa on one hand and the newspaper on the other(always)

5) 4 alcoholic beverages I’ve enjoyed:
-Bailey’s Irish Cream with coffee. Yum yum! Its like drinking fiery kopi!
-Shirley Temple, like its smoothness
-Chinese Sao Shing Yellow Wine, good with seafood
-But of course nothing beats a nice cold beer…

6) 4 celebrities I would go on a Big Date with:
Angelina Jolie:  Cant imagine how a kick-ass babe like AJ will have a soft spot for babies. THis is one date that die2 must go.

-Lindsay Lohan: for saying “NO” to nudity. I may get lucky & get a private preview of her personal assets.

Mariah Carey: we failed to break the speaker during our karaoke session in
Ipoh. I may have better luck If MC around…

Monica Bellucci: she started in the legal profession before embarking on a career in the field of entertainment. Can’t resist beauty with intellect…monica_bellucci_fishnet.jpg

7) 4 things I could not live without (excluding the essential)::
-My camera
-My mobile phone
-My wallet
-My car

8) 4 of my favourite foods, whom I’d like to bon appetite with:
We need to eat and it is always good to catch up with frens over a good meal. My wishlist….
-Chili crab with Cocka in JB coz he owes me one!
-Prawn mee/Honey tea at Happy Valley Cafe with Helen in Ipoh
-Good old fashion beef steak in Calgary with Fly Boy
-Rojak with lenglui in KL, served by who else but Rojak!

9) 4 places I would rather be now:
There’s so many places I would love to be right now but in no particular order are & I need a time machine to go to some of these places:
-Kuala Lumpur in 5 years time (shopping day-trip when the KL-SG high speed train project is completed. Heard it takes 90 min for a single trip)
-Singapore in 5 years time (when the integrated resorts are in operation)pic143091.jpg
-Paris (bring my wife for a romantic walk around the city)

-Phuket (for some sun & beach)

10) 4 people I am tagging this meme:
-Jurgen Klinsmann, Germany ex-coach as he is in-between job now and may have some time to kill
-all the carpark aunties so they will spend less time issuing summons
Ultraman, my favourite childhood hero!
Leslie, my yuppie ex-classmate from ACS,
Ipoh. He has a unique point of view and I would like to hear from him!

Why l switched to WordPress 1

July 6, 2006 at 11:15 +08:0007 (General Chatter)

WordPress has some cool functions that i like….eg this comment decoding function.  When you switch it on and apply it to the visitors’ comments, you can decode what they really want to say. I tried it and found a few surprises.

The decoded comments that really stand out were from Titoki.

Read the comments and see whether you can do better than WordPress.
